Luverne Cardinal PrideI don't know about you but I'm proud to be from Luverne. It's a great place to live and have a business and raise a family. Every once and a while something happens to reinforce that sense of pride in our community. I witnessed that Friday night on a football field. I suppose you could say that every come from behind win is like that. We always root for the underdog. More so when we're the underdog. But this felt different. It seemed like one of those movies, you know, the kind where the dramatic music starts playing in the background as the tide turns and the good guys pull ahead to a victory. It was like that in the 4th quarter when the Luverne defense made a goal line stand against a powerful JCC offense; an offense that seemed to have no trouble advancing the ball earlier in the game. I thought to myself, "Even if the home team doesn't win, they can still be proud because they put up a valiant fight." But the Cardinals were not done. Two possessions later our boys drove 50 yards and scored the game-winning touchdown with 8 seconds remaining in the game. It was with determination and persistence the the game was won. The kind that makes you proud that it's your team. Congratulations Luverne Cardinal football on your section title. Photos here.

That set the Cardinals up for #12 Richard Gonzalez to run in his second touchdown of the contest. Gallery here.

Luverne Volleyball Win Over Redwood ValleyThe Luverne Cardinal Volleyball team posted an impressive win over Redwood Valley last week Thursday. I've been photographing football games for the last two years and I thought it would be fun to photograph some other sports. I was not quite prepared for the tenacity and quickness of this team. Congratulations girls! Photos here.

Cardinal Gold n BowlIt was a great night for football for the Luverne Cardinals and for the fans, at least after the rain let up. In the battle of the Cardinals, Luverne led throughout the game to defeat the Redwood Valley Cardinals 28-7. Photos from the game are in the gallery here. I spent the first half of the game selling Gold ‘n Bowl grilled chicken sandwiches for the Luverne Area Chamber of Commerce so photos from the game start in the second half. Pictured below are the crackerjack chicken grill-masters, Randy, Mark and John.
